Hope. By far it is the most powerful thing in the world. It can inspire, encourage, and light the path ahead. It can change any situation, from something truly dire, to something with the potential for brilliant success. Over the past couple weeks, we have hit our fair share of obstacles. Unresponsive potential sponsors, the lack of a driver for our journey, and personal troubles as well. That said, I know that their are brighter days away, and hopefully within the next week we find the sponsorship we desire and the driver we so desperately need.

It hasn’t all been doom and gloom. In fact, the Senior Concert Band at New Westminster Secondary School put smiles on alot of faces just this past week. Armed with glowing hearts, creative minds, and some crayons, these students created some stunning letters and pieces of art for patients at BC Children’s Hospital. Fifteen minutes is all it took. Fifteen simple minutes, the length of the average coffee break, and now sick children at BC Children’s Hospital have Hope. It truly is that simple. I could go on for hours about how profound the effect of such art and poetry is for the kids in hospital and how incredibly heartfelt these messages from students at NWSS are, but I’ll let the pictures do the talking. We’ll keep you updated on the driver and sponsorship situation, and hopefully in the next couple weeks we’ll be heading to New Foundland. For now, all the best. Cheers!

Things are picking up, and as they do I get more excited and nervous by the second. An adventure like this isn’t just exciting or challenging, its absolutely terrifying. That said, I can’t say I’d rather be doing anything else.

Over the past week we’ve been attempting to secure further sponsorship, funding, and more equipment; and although progress is slow going, it is promising to say the least. We’ve got a bike, funding from the bank should be coming through shortly, and potential sponsors are considering their respective decisions. Furthermore, training at Richmond Olympic Oval is going great, and I can’t complain of any major injuries.

Although at this point we definitely wanted to be further ahead, the future is looking brighter than ever. We might miss our target start date of Oct. 6th, but by no means will we miss our end date of Feb. 18th. A Canucks-Leafs game at Rogers Arena on Hockey Day in Canada is simply too important. That’s all for now, stay tuned as next week we head to New Westminster Secondary School where students from the Music Department are putting together care packages and writing letters of hope for children at BC Children’s Hospital. Cheers!
